Understand which EC210 you are evaluating

Volvo EC210 excavators are used in general construction, earthmoving and infrastructure work. Different EC210 generations and regional versions may use different engines, control systems and component specifications. Record the complete model designation, serial number and installed equipment before comparing machines.

Check identification and stated hours

Match the serial plate and available stamped number with the quotation and export documents. Photograph the full monitor and operating hours. Ask whether the monitor, engine controller or other control units have been replaced, and compare available service records with physical wear in the cab and undercarriage.

Inspect engine condition from cold

Request a continuous cold-start test showing the display, cranking and exhaust. Observe smoke after start-up, idle stability, blow-by evidence and warning messages. Warm the machine under controlled load, then inspect oil, coolant, fuel and air-intake areas. A clean engine bay should still be checked again after operation.

Assess hydraulic response and temperature

Once the hydraulic oil is warm, cycle each implement and test combined movements. Watch for delay, uneven speed, drift, noise or a change in engine load. Check the boom, arm and bucket cylinders for rod damage and fresh leakage. If symptoms are present, request pressure, flow or case-drain tests from qualified personnel.

Examine structure and joint wear

Inspect the boom foot, boom and arm plates, cylinder mounts, bucket linkage and counterweight. Look for fine cracks, rust lines, altered welds and distortion. Use small controlled movements to locate play at individual pins and bushings while everyone remains outside crush zones.

Measure the undercarriage

Compare both sides for track-chain, roller, idler and sprocket wear. Check shoe damage, loose hardware, guards and visible final-drive leakage. Track tension and wear limits should follow the correct model procedure. Include likely undercarriage work in the purchase budget rather than treating it as cosmetic wear.

Test cab and electrical functions

Operate monitor menus, work modes, safety lock, controls, horn, lights, wipers, camera and climate system. Record active and stored warnings. Intermittent electrical issues may appear only after the machine warms, so repeat the monitor and accessory check near the end of the test.

Documents and evidence checklist

• Complete model and serial-number photographs.
• Cold-start and fully warmed operating video.
• Close images of the cooling pack, pumps, cylinders and weld areas.
• Undercarriage measurements or clear wear evidence.
• Service history, diagnostic information and included attachments.
