Remote Used Excavator Inspection Video Checklist for Buyers

A useful video must be continuous and machine-specific

Remote buyers often receive short clips that show only smooth movements and fresh paint. A decision-quality inspection video should identify the exact machine, show important tests in a logical sequence and avoid unexplained cuts. Video does not replace an independent inspection, but it helps buyers identify questions before paying for travel or third-party testing.

Start with date and machine identity

Ask the presenter to show the inspection date, machine serial plate, dashboard hours and full machine in one continuous opening sequence. The serial number should match the quotation and available documents. Record attachments and loose parts that are included in the sale.

Prove a genuine cold start

Before starting, show the engine block or temperature display and confirm the machine has not been preheated unless ambient conditions require it. Keep the camera on the monitor, exhaust and engine sound during cranking and initial idle. Record warning lights, smoke behavior and time to stable operation.

Walk around the complete machine

Film all sides slowly in good light. Include the counterweight, panels, undercarriage, boom, arm, bucket, cylinder rods, hose areas and cab. Pause on leaks, cracks, repairs and identification labels. Avoid music or narration that hides mechanical sounds.

Demonstrate hydraulic functions

After warm-up, show boom, arm, bucket and swing separately, followed by controlled combined movements. Include full movement where safe and record hesitation, noise or drift. A camera placed too far away can miss cylinder leakage and joint play, so request close views after the operating test.

Test travel and steering

Use firm, level ground with adequate clearance. Film forward and reverse travel on both sides, steering turns and travel at available speed settings. Show the sprockets and track chains while moving when this can be done safely. Record final-drive sounds after the hydraulic oil is warm.

Show cab functions and diagnostics

Film monitor menus, active and stored warnings, work modes, lights, horn, wipers, camera, air conditioning and safety lock. If a diagnostic tool is available, request a readable report rather than a quick camera sweep. Do not ask the seller to clear codes before recording them.

Minimum evidence list

• Machine identity and dashboard hours.
• Uninterrupted cold start.
• Full exterior and undercarriage walk-around.
• Warm hydraulic, swing and travel tests.
• Close-ups of leaks, welds, pins and cylinder rods.
• Monitor warnings and available service records.
• Final confirmation of included attachments and repairs.
