Used Komatsu PC400-8R Excavator Inspection and Export Guide

Release time: 2026-09-11

Buying a used Komatsu PC400-8R requires more than comparing the model name and quotation. A 40-ton class crawler excavator can deliver strong production in quarrying, earthmoving and heavy loading, but wear in the undercarriage, hydraulic system or working equipment can materially change the real purchase cost.

Used Komatsu PC400-8R excavator exterior inspection

The machine on our current product page is listed as a 2024 Komatsu PC400-8R with 286 working hours. Because used-equipment availability and recorded details can change, buyers should reconfirm the identification plate, meter reading, configuration, attachments and availability before payment.

Confirm machine identity before discussing condition

Ask for clear photographs of the identification plate, engine plate and hour meter. The model, serial information and stated configuration should match the quotation and sales contract. Do not rely only on exterior decals or fresh paint.

Inspect the boom, stick and main frame

Examine the boom foot, boom-to-stick joint, bucket linkage, cylinder mounts, counterweight area and upper-frame welds. Look for cracks, reinforcement plates, irregular welds, distortion and different paint texture. Pin and bushing movement should be checked with the attachment slightly raised while the operator changes direction carefully.

Test the engine from a genuine cold start

Request a continuous cold-start video that shows the machine before ignition, the exhaust during startup and the dashboard. Observe starting time, smoke, unusual noise, blow-by, coolant condition and visible leaks. Continue testing until the machine reaches normal operating temperature.

Evaluate hydraulic performance when the oil is warm

Test boom raise, stick movement, bucket curl, swing and travel separately, then repeat combined movements. Watch for slow response, drift, vibration, abnormal pump noise and oil leakage around cylinders, valves, motors and hose connections. A short idle demonstration is not enough for a heavy excavator.

Check the complete undercarriage on both sides

The undercarriage is a major cost area. Inspect track shoes, links, pins and bushings, carrier rollers, bottom rollers, idlers, sprocket teeth and track tension. Compare left and right wear. Photographs should show the full track frame as well as close views of contact surfaces.

Review the cooling system and service access

Inspect radiator and cooler fins for blockage, impact damage or oil contamination. Check hoses, clamps, wiring and non-standard repairs. Confirm that the machine holds a stable operating temperature during a working test. Service records are useful supporting evidence, but they do not replace a live inspection.

Match the machine to the project

A PC400-8R is most suitable where production, reach and bucket capacity justify the transport and operating cost of a 40-ton class excavator. Buyers should compare expected material density, digging depth, loading height, ground conditions, attachment requirements and local transport limits before selecting the machine.

Plan export and shipping before payment

Shipping method depends on destination, port restrictions, dimensions and whether the boom, stick, bucket or counterweight must be removed. Confirm the loading plan, lifting points, securing method, documents and responsibility for reassembly in writing. Review our excavator shipping cost guide for the main cost factors.
