CAT 950 vs CAT 966: which size fits?

• CAT 950 / 950GC / 950C (about 18–20 tons operating weight): the volume mid-size loader for sand, aggregate and general yard work. Examples: 950GC #643, 950GC #634 and 950C #510. A lighter option is the CAT 910M #546.
• CAT 966 / 966H (about 23–25 tons): more breakout and bucket capacity for quarry and high-cycle truck loading. Example: 966H #534. Larger still: CAT 972H (2023, 2325 h).

Video inspection checklist

1. Serial plate and hour meter in one uncut clip; note any monitor fault codes.
2. Cold start, smoke colour and transmission engagement when warm.
3. Bucket and boom: full raise, tilt and lower under load; listen for pump whine.
4. Articulation joint and centre pins for play; check steering both ways at idle and full throttle.
5. Tyres and rims: tread depth, cuts and matching sizes on all four corners.
6. Differentials and axles: travel forward and reverse; listen for noise on turns.
7. Hydraulics and leaks around lift cylinders, hoses and the transmission cooler.
